Before I link you to other sites, I would like to give you some real "solid" techniques and secrets about Metal Gear Solid.
- Snake's Techniques
- Run and shoot technique: Press the crawl button while you are pressing the weapon button, then just point in the direction that you want to run and shoot!
- Peeking: Press R1 button while in First-person View Mode to step to the right, and L1 button to the left. This is good for peeking around corners.
- Strangling: Get close to an enemy and press the weapon button without pressing the directional pad and you will strangle him.(you must have no weapons equipped) Press the weapon button 11 times repeatedly to break his neck when he is strangled.
- Take out the cameras: You can destroy the cameras by using a Nikita Launcher or a Stinger Launcher.
Later in the game you will meet Meryl, stare at her for a few seconds in First-person View Mode and you will find something funny!
Other cool stuffs!
Use the camera to take pictures in some areas can get you Phantom Pictures! Cool huh? Take pictures in this areas:
(1) The guard in the bathroom peeing.
(2) The guard who is still not dead after being slashed by the ninja.
(3) The body of the DARPA chief in the cell.
(4) The mirrors in the women's restroom.
(5) The world map in the PAL key room.

Ultra Secrets!
- You will fight a red ninja after you complete two times.
- You can get Solid Snake in tuxedo in the U.S. version after you complete two times.
- You can get Meryl to dress in her skivvies if you rush into the women's restroom when Meryl is inside.
- To fight Mantis, put the controller into port two.
- Equip the handkerchief in the cave with many wolves, then the wolves will not attack you but they will love you instead!
- Call Mei Ling five to six times and choose not to save. You can flirt with her! She will begin to blush, smile and then stick out her tongue at ya!
- Camera: The camera is found in the Armory, back through the bottom passage where you fight Ocelot. It's behind a level 6 door, so you'll have to backtrack for it. It allows you to take snapshots and create a photo album of in-game action.
- Bandanna: This item is received if you get the good ending, by not submitting in Ocelot's Torture Room. Meryl will give it to you at the end. The Bandanna gives you unlimited ammo, grenades and bullets.
- Stealth: If you do submit to Ocelot's torture, you'll get the Stealth Camo from Otacon. Probably the coolest item in the game, the Stealth camo makes you completely invisible to all regular enemies. It doesn't work on Bosses or cinema battles though.

Unlocking Metal Gear Solid Secret Modes!
- Time Attack Mode: VR training with time goals; beat all 10 VR levels to get it.
- Gun Shooting Mode: VR training with SOCOM; beat all 10 Time Attack levels to get it.
- Survival Mode: All 10 Gun Shooting levels combined into one huge level; beat all 10 Gun Shooting levels to get it.
- Technical Data Mode: Computer Wizard runs through and shows you how to beat all the Gun Shooting levels; beat Survival Mode to get it.
- Extreme Mode: Takes the normal game and makes it unbelievably hard. No radar, less rations, less ammo, and tougher enemies. Beat the game once on any difficulty setting to get it.
- Photo Album Mode: A photo editor where you can save and edit your pictures taken with the Camera. To get it, find the Camera.
- Demo Theater Mode: Allows you to go through and view all the game's cinemas. To get it, you'll have to beat the game on any difficulty setting. There are two "Rolls." Roll A is Meryl's Ending, and Roll B is Otacon's Ending.
- Gun Shooting Mode: VR training with SOCOM; beat all 10 Time Attack levels to get it.
